Traumatic Brain Injury Testing in NH

Concerned about a Head Injury or Concussion? We're Here to Help.

Each year, thousands of New Hampshire residents experience a traumatic brain injury (TBI). These injuries can range from mild (such as a concussion) to more severe impacts that affect daily functioning. Even seemingly minor head injuries can lead to long-term cognitive, emotional, or behavioral changes.

Most TBIs are caused by falls, motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, or physical trauma. Symptoms may not appear right away and can be easily overlooked—especially in mild cases. However, early recognition and proper evaluation are essential for recovery and long-term brain health.

Why a Neuropsychological Evaluation Matters

Many people with TBI experience difficulties with memory, attention, organization, or mood regulation. A neuropsychological evaluation provides a detailed picture of how your brain is functioning after an injury. It can help:

  • Confirm the presence and extent of cognitive changes
  • Guide treatment and rehabilitation  efforts
  • Support academic or workplace accommodations
  • Monitor progress over time

Signs you Might Need an Evaluation

You or a loved one may benefit from an evaluation if you’ve experienced:

  • Memory problems, trouble focusing, or slowed thinking
  • Increased irritability, anxiety, or emotional changes
  • Difficulty returning to school or work after a concussion
  • Worsening symptoms weeks or months after a head injury
  • A history of multiple concussions or TBIs

Take the Next Step

At Next Step Neuropsychology, we offer in-depth TBI evaluations. Dr. Seichepine has extensive experience with traumatic brain injury, including authoring the first scientific article describing the clinical characteristics of the dementia associated with repetitive hits to the head (Clinical presentation of chronic traumatic encephalopathy).

Additional studies by Dr. Seichepine have examined TBI in:

  • Former professional NFL players (Executive Functioning in College and Professional Football Players)

  • College Students (Multiple Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries & Cognitive and Mood Symptoms in College Students)

  • Emergency Departments (Concussion Care Practices in New England Emergency Departments)

  • The in-home testing session takes about 5-7 hours to complete and involves completing a number of paper-and-pencil tests measuring a variety of cognitive functions, including IQ, attention, working memory, executive functions, learning and memory, language, visuospatial and perceptual reasoning, motor and emotional functioning.

Step #3: Feedback Session Conducted Over Zoom
